May in Jaipur, two ACs and a fridge that never sleeps. Meter can kiss 400 units without a party in the house. I have seen it in my own place, and in a uncle's house in the hot belt where they keep one hall AC on for elders.

Two ACs and a fridge can do 400 units. Rate still comes from your last JVVNL style bill, not from me.

I do not fake official DISCOM tariffs. I will not type a slab chart and call it JVVNL, AVVNL, JdVVNL, or any other board. Those charts move. Subsidy stories move. You type your rate. You type your fixed charge. The electricity bill calculator then does units times that rate, or two slabs, plus fixed.

If a neighbour in Kota pays a different rupee, their load and their slab and their subsidy are not your file.

Why 400 units is a ordinary summer story

A 1.5 ton AC for 8 hours is a lot of units. Two of them, even if they dont both run 8 hours every day, add up. Fridge compressor is not 24 hours of full watts, but it is every day. Ceiling fans, a cooler in a extra room, geyser in the morning if you still use one, washing machine, that pile sits on top.

I am not saying your house will hit 400. A small flat with one AC and careful 26 degree can sit lower. A bungalow with glass and 18 degree can sit higher. 400 is a number people search because it showed up on a bill and they felt attacked.

I felt attacked the first time I crossed it. Then I counted hours.

Power consumption tool is watts, hours, days. Fridge sticker watts are not the true daily average, because compressor cycles. If you use sticker watts times 24 you will overshoot. I knock that down in my head. Ugly, but better than a fantasy.

Two ACs, say one 1.5 and one 1 ton, 6 to 10 hours depending on the day, plus fridge, plus kitchen. I have landed near 350 to 450 in May-June without guests. Guests with extra AC push it.

This is not a official consumption study. It is a cousin observation. Your meter is the study.

Winter in the same house might be 150 to 220. That is why mashed all-in rate from May is a bad winter plan. I wrote about fixed charge separately. Keep fixed outside the rate.

Type your last bill rate, not a rumour

Open the last JVVNL style PDF, or whatever board actually serves your house. I say JVVNL style because a lot of Jaipur folks say JVVNL in daily talk. Your area might be another company. Same method.

Find units. If last month was 380 and this month feels hotter, 400 is a planning number you type yourself.

Find energy rate or the slab rates. Type them. Single rate if you like a average from the energy lines. Two slabs if the bill clearly has a first pile and a rest pile.

Find fixed charge. Type it.

I will not publish "first 50 units at X, next 100 at Y" as if I am the board. If I do that, someone files a mental complaint that I am wrong after a tariff order. User types their rate. That is the product.

Subsidy. If the payable is lower than energy plus fixed because of a relief line, my tool will look high. Reduce the rate yourself if you know the effective number, or accept a high sketch and then subtract the subsidy after.

I tried this on my last summer bill. I typed units 412, the energy average I worked from the sheet, and the fixed line. I was close to current month charges. I was not close to amount payable, because there was a old arrears. Arrears are not summer units.

Dont use a Delhi friend rate. Dont use a 2019 newspaper clipping. Dont use a Twitter screenshot of a slab without your category, domestic vs other.

Sanctioned load changes fixed. If you raised load for a second AC, last year's fixed is stale.

worked example

How I estimate 400 before the meter reader comes

I look at last May units. If we added a AC this year, I add a chunk. I dont add a random 200 unless the AC ran like a factory.

I use the AC tool. 1.5 ton, 8 hours, 30 days, my unit rate, watts per ton around 800 for a decent inverter. I read the units from that result. I run the second AC with fewer hours. I add a fridge guess. I add 40 to 80 units for the rest of the house in summer, fans and kitchen. I land near a number. Then I put that number in the electricity bill tool.

If that total is 400, I see the rupees with my rate and my fixed.

If I want to cut, I cut hours in the AC tool, not the rate. 8 hours to 6 hours is a real lever. 26 degree instead of 22 is a real lever. The bill tool cannot see your remote.

Star rating. Higher star usually lower watts. I drop watts per ton if I know it is a 5 star inverter. Older machine, I raise watts. The hint on the AC page says inverter often 700-900, older can be 1000+. I treat that as a guess band, not a lab report.

Inverter vs non inverter. Inverter cycles down. A hours box still assumes a average draw. It is rough.

Power cuts and inverter-battery homes use less grid for some hours and more when power returns. I dont model that. Meter will.

If you have solar, 400 units consumption is not 400 units billed. This page is not net metering. Type billed units if you want the bill, not consumed units, when export is in play.

What 400 units is not

It is not a official Rajasthan average. I dont have a government survey in my pocket.

It is not a proof that you are being overcharged per unit. Overcharge is a rate and a slab and a wrong reading question. High units is a usage question. Separate.

It is not "AC is 400 units". Fridge and fans live here too. I have a relative who blamed only the new AC and then found a old fridge dying in the pantry. Dying fridge can drink.

It is not a reason to type a imaginary high rate "because Rajasthan is hot". Heat raises units. Rate is still the printed tariff on your category. Hot weather does not invent a extra ₹5 by itself. Units invent the extra rupees.

If the reading is estimated, 400 might be a office guess, not your house. Wait for actual. Fighting an estimate with my tool is a circle.

If two families share a meter, 400 is both families. Split after, with the split bill tool if you want rupees per head. The electricity page is one meter.

When someone says "summer bill around 400 units in Rajasthan", I nod at the 400. I ask for their rate. I refuse to guess the rate. That refusal is the useful part.

If you want a number today, type 400, type the rate from the last PDF, type fixed, hit calculate. If you dont have the PDF, get it before you argue with family about "the site says". The site says what you typed.

I still do this every May. Two ACs, one fridge, a slightly guilty look at the remote. Units first. Rate from the bill. No fake official slab from my side. That is the deal.
